Qualified Overtime Spot Check

Tie-Out Press

One employee, one workweek. What qualifies for W-2 box 12 code TT — and every dollar that does not, with the reason and the rule. Free. No account, no email, no expiry, nothing held back.

Not a substitute for professional advice. This is a calculation tool, not tax advice, not legal advice, and not a substitute for either. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor, the Department of the Treasury, or any other government agency. You remain responsible for the amounts you report. Check every figure against your own payroll records and against the primary sources cited at the foot of this page before you file, and take advice on anything that matters.

1. The workweek

Overwrites the pay lines below with straight time plus a single time-and-a-half overtime line. Everything else you can edit by hand.

2. Pay lines for this workweek

Every line the register shows for this workweek, with what it is. The classification is the whole calculation: it decides what enters the regular rate, what counts as a premium, and what is nothing at all.

Description What it is Amount $ Hours Rate $/h ×
3. Who this employee is coverage, exemption, state
4. Does any of this apply? things one workweek cannot answer

Tick anything that is true. Each one takes the answer outside what a single-workweek spot check can stand behind, and the tool will say so rather than give you a number that looks complete and is not.

Worked examples

Reference examples, loaded from the same inputs this tool's test suite runs. Two reproduce a published worked example; one is the figure a published rule produces where that rule prints no example; the California week is this kit's own case and no agency's. Load one and check the arithmetic against the source before you trust the tool with your own numbers.

Colophon

This file is published by Tie-Out Press, which also produces the Qualified Overtime Kit, TY2026 edition. The kit reads a payroll register for the whole year rather than one workweek. It allocates deferred nondiscretionary bonuses and commissions back across the workweeks they were earned in (29 CFR 778.209(b)), computes the components for compensatory time cashed out or taken as leave (29 USC 207(o)), for back pay and for retroactive rate increases, and adds every workweek and every deferred component into the one annual figure that goes in box 12 as code TT. It writes an exception log naming each row it refused to compute and why, and a method memo recording the rule applied to each figure, for the reviewer who asks how a number was reached.

The kit is paid. This file is not a trial of it: nothing here expires and nothing is held back. tieoutpress.com
